Unity Minor Ball ready for spring training

Warm weather has fueled the desire for Unity Minor Ball teams to be back on the diamonds for another season

UNITY - While the diamonds are not dry enough, or free of snow enough, to play on, that hasn’t stopped Unity minor ball progam from preparing for their season.

Unity Minor Ball has long had the reputation for being a strong program, which includes multiple provincial and Western Canadian medals won.  Along with the enviable diamonds facility, Unity has been the place to come to for ball activity for many years. In 2021, a number of provincial medals were won by Unity teams and the U18 Cardinals won a provincial title on home diamonds in August of 2021.

UMB initiated an electronic registration process this year and the organization says it went over very well and they are happy they made the transition. The process eliminates the need for a crowded, in-person registration process with multiple volunteers needed to make it happen.

While final numbers are not in yet, UMB says they will have over 200 players registered to play ball in all age categories of both baseball and softball.

Unity will be hosting U18 BW girls softball provincials as well as the U11 and U21 baseball teams have also applied to host championships.

The executive has told the Press-Herald / SASKTODAY.ca that they are planning to completely rebuild the Elks diamond playing surface this fall.

As always, until the diamonds are ready, teams will work out indoors at the rink once the ice is out, following the conclusion of hockey playoff season.

“We are always actively recruiting youth umpires and this year is no different.  We welcome kids 13 years old and older to take part in the upcoming umpire clinic. Watch our Facebook page for dates and contact information for the clinics being held in Unity for baseball, April 23 and softball, April 24.”

The 2022 executive for UMB includes president, Regan L’Heureux; VP Graeme Giene; treasurer, Curtis Sieben; secretary, Melissa Sieben; umpire co-ordinator, Trevor Green; grassroots co-ordinator, Roxanne Greenwalk; baseball co-ordinator, Dan Feser; softball co-ordinator, Ryan Greenwald and long time equipment co-ordinator, Pat Risling.
