Unity Public Schools joins community rally for Raycraft family

Unity rallies to support the Raycraft family who are currently dealing with their one year-old son's cancer diagnosis.

UNITY - Staff and students at Unity Public School joined the fundraising efforts for the Raycraft family, whose son, Frederick, is currently undergoing stem cell treatment in Calgary for medulloblastoma SHH.

UPS collected hat day donations and staff contributed to the fund which resulted in a total raised of $863.20. Staff presented the money to Frederick's brother, Alvin, who is a student at the school.

A story in the Unity-Wilkie Press Herald on Sept. 17 outlined some of the Raycraft's story. Inspired to help others from the generosity of others, Frederick's mother, Jessica Raycraft and her husband Geoff have been a staunch supporters of childhood cancer initiatives including the Harvest for Gold online auction and setting up collection sites for the Silver for Gold tabs collection.

Unity Composite High School also recently orchestrated some fundraising initiatives at their school to benefit this local family.

Frederick was diagnosed with cancer in March of 2021 just before turning one year old, which resulted in many months of surgery, chemotherapy and the current stem cell rescue treatments.

A trust fund has been set up at Unity Credit Union for the Raycrafts to assist with expenses incurred in the travel involved, and living away from home, that are part of their son's treatment program.
