Unity's Parkview Place celebrates retirement of longtime head cook

Marcel Boucher, long time head cook at Unity's Parkview Place, was celebrated on Sept. 29 as he moves into retirement

UNITY - Marcel Boucher was celebrated at Parkview Place on Sept. 29 as he heads off into retirement.

Boucher has had a long cooking career which included operating restaurants in both Rosetown and Maidstone, cooking at camps, providing culinary duties at the Unimac in Unity and working in the meat department at Shop Easy Foods. He has been serving as head cook at Parkview Place ever since they opened.

Boucher and his wife Marie have lived in Unity for 33 years. Their two sons were born and raised here, and both now live and work in Saskatoon. Marie works at Delta Co-op Agro.

Some of the things Marie says Marcel will look forward to in retirement include sleeping in, as that’s never been an option in his career. He will enjoy time at home and the couple are currently renovating their living room. He will also work on the "honey-do” list.

Boucher also will work at odd jobs and his woodworking hobby, which his wife says is artwork.

Community members used to flock to the Parkview Place annual bake sales for Marcel’s bread, culinary artwork in itself.

The Parkview Place community of residents, staff and board say, "We will miss Marcel’s presence very much. Marcel’s talent as a chef was just one fine quality he shared; he is also a talented woodworker, a compassionate friend and a fun-loving spirit to have around! Marcel should be very proud of the legacy he helped to build, and we will be forever grateful for his 15 years of dedicated service. Together with the residents, a few board members, staff and his wife Marie, Marcel enjoyed a retirement celebration that highlighted his career, with Will Ballantyne performing on the fiddle, a photo slideshow and toast made by Paula Sittler.”
