WILKIE — The Town of Wilkie welcomes a couple new staff members. Linda Nicholetts joined the office staff as a casual secretary a few months ago. She has been a great addition to the office. Most recently, Connor Piller has started as assistant administrator. Connor will be taking over from Sandra Beckett who is retiring Oct. 31. We would like to welcome Connor to Wilkie and we wish Sandra all the best in her upcoming retirement.

The Wilkie and District Museum have been holding a summer kids’ program every Tuesday afternoon throughout the summer. This programming is free. For more information contact the museum at 306-843-2717 or check out their Facebook page.

The Wilkie Wheatland Library have also been holding weekly crafts. Program kits are also available as take and make. These free crafts will continue to the end of August. Check their Facebook page weekly to see what this week’s craft is.

The Wilkie Community Swimming Pool has been a busy place this summer. They held activities during National Drowning Prevention Week, organized a summer Olympics for the kids, polo clinic and a glow stick party. A water show and barbecue is being held Aug. 18 with the barbecue at 5:30 p.m., water show at 7 p.m. with a deck dance to follow.

The Wilkie Brewers looked to defend their Senior Men’s AA Tier 2 Provincial title in Kindersley Aug. 5 to 7. The Brewers came through with a 2-2 record. All teams were tied at 2-2 but unfortunately the Brewers gave up too many runs for the tie-breaking system so did not advance to the finals. The Brewers also advanced to the NSRBL final for the first time since 2016 by eliminating the North Battleford Beavers in two games. The Brewers will take on the Standard Hill Lakers in a best-of-three series starting in Wilkie Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. Good luck Brewers!

Works is continuing on the Downtown 2nd Avenue Park. Work will continue throughout the summer and should hopefully be completed by the end of August. This park will be a great addition to our downtown.
