Wilkie remains top of standings in SWHL

SWHL has one weekend left of regular season games before Christmas break

UNITY — It was a quiet weekend for local teams with some only having a one game weekend.

Kerrobert took on the Biggar Nationals on Dec. 10. Even with Biggar playing with a short bench, they gave the Tigers all they could handle, scoring first and last, losing by only one goal. Rylan Freed, Riley Anderson and Quenton Murphy scored for the Tigers.

Meeting the Mohawks on Dec. 11 would be their next challenge as Macklin sits fourth in the standings.

Kerrobert would finish off the first half of the regular season with two single-game weekends, on the road in Hafford Dec. 17 and in a rare Thursday night game, Dec. 23, the Tigers would host the Klippers. Jan. 8 will be the Tigers first game back in the second half of the regular season.

Macklin lost to the undefeated Outlaws Dec. 10 on the road and the team looked to regroup for their Dec. 11 matchup against the Kerrobert Tigers at home. The Mowhawks scored the first and the last goal of the game, defeating the Tigers 7-5, with six different goal scorers and Carson Pickett scoring two. The first half of their regular season will end with Dec. 17-18 weekend where they host Biggar Nationals on the Friday game and head to Kindersley to take on the Klippers. Sitting in the middle of the standings, the Mohawks are looking to remain strong going into the break and start fresh in the new year, with first game set for Jan. 9.

The Unity Miners only had one game the second last weekend of regular season, playing a second spot Edam team on Dec. 11. The team continues to take their lumps as the 3-Stars pummelled them 10-2, with Kristain St. Onge and Justin Gerein netting the only Miners goals. The Miners will finish up the first half of regular season in a two-game weekend, playing a home and home series against familiar rivals, and top spot, Wilkie Outlaws. Jan. 7 will be the first game back in the new year with the Miners hoping to gain some lost ground in the second half of their season.

Wilkie Outlaws continue their winning ways holding on to top spot in the league. Defeating middle spot Mohawks Dec. 10, in a solo game weekend, by a score of 8-4 was a great opportunity to add some more points in the standings. Scoring for the Outlaws, all in singles, were Garrett Cameron, Rory Gregoire, Will Rathje, Ryne Keller, Derek Keller and Rick Cey. Blake Young potted two goals for Wilkie in the first and last goal of the game. The first half of the regular season ends with a home and home series with the lobby floor Unity Miners Dec. 17-18. The Outlaws will have an extended break as their first game back in the second half of the season is not until Jan. 9.

As of Dec. 11, the SWHL stats show Brock Harrison in top spot and Rory Gregoire, both Outlaws, in third place in league-leading numbers.
