Young men following in their firefighter dad’s footsteps

Two McLurg High School students are learning from Wilkie firefighters

WILKIE — The Wilkie and District Fire Department has had young students joining the department and learning what being a firefighter is about.

Grade 11 students at McLurg High, Jacob Stewart, son of Greg, and Hunter Sittler, son of Craig, joined the department last year. Being able to collaborate with their dads as firefighters has been great the fellows said, “We have learned so much and realize the importance of being a fireman.”

They take part in the training sessions, helping during Fire Prevention Week activities, being a part of the department. They said the members have been extremely helpful training them in all aspects. As far as making firefighting a career, Jacob and Hunter aren’t sure. Time will tell. For now, they are just learning and enjoying the experience.
