It is with love and sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Marjorie Rohde Mason, at the age of 99 years, surrounded by her devoted family.

Born on May 4, 1926, to Herb and Ethel Rohde in the beautiful grasslands of southern Saskatchewan, Marjorie was an only child of a well-established ranching family. Her profound love for the prairies and ranching life shaped her identity and remained close to her heart throughout her years.

Marjorie’s passion for education began early, leading her to Teachers College after high school. She later pursued her Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Arts degrees, specializing in early childhood education. Marjorie was a gifted writer and historian. Her book, One Hundred Years of Grassland (1993), documented the rich history and settlement of the southern Saskatchewan stock-growing industry—a tribute to the land and its stories she so deeply cherished.

In 1946, Marjorie married Bernard Harvey Mason, a returning RCAF veteran from WWII. Together, they built a vibrant life, raising two daughters, Robyn Lynn and Pamella Jill, while embarking on exciting and innovative business ventures.

After Bernie’s passing in 1972, Marjorie found strength and purpose in returning to her teaching career, sharing her love for learning with students in her beloved grasslands. Her resilience and dedication to family and community left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Marjorie was predeceased by her husband Bernie and daughter Robyn Lynn (1993). She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, carried on by her daughter Pamella Acton (Murray) of Calgary; her three grandchildren, Jill Tollefson Tressel (Moose Jaw, SK), Sarah Acton (Calgary, AB), and Wilson Acton (Calgary, AB); and six great-grandchildren.

Marjorie’s life was a testament to resilience, a deep appreciation for history, and unwavering love for her family. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered with love and gratitude.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff of Seton AgeCare in Mahogany East for their kindness and compassionate care of Marjorie.

A private celebration of Marjorie’s life will be held at a later date.
