SASKATCHEWAN — Environment Canada has issued a heat advisory for parts of Saskatchewan, warning of a long-duration heat event expected to last through the weekend.

Daytime high temperatures near 30 degrees Celsius combined with overnight lows of 14 to 17 degrees Celsius are forecast until early next week.

As of 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the advisory applies to Buffalo Narrows and Peter Pond Lake, Candle Lake Provincial Park and Narrow Hills Provincial Park, Cluff Lake Mine, Cree Lake–Key Lake, Highway 165 between highways 2 and 914 including Pinehouse Lake, La Loche and Clearwater River Provincial Park, Lac La Ronge Provincial Park including La Ronge, Montreal Lake and Molanosa, Prince Albert National Park, and Île à la Crosse and Beauval.

Environment Canada urged residents to take precautions. Extreme heat can affect everyone’s health, particularly older adults, young children and those with pre-existing conditions.

Signs of heat exhaustion include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and fatigue. Heat stroke is a medical emergency, with symptoms such as red and hot skin, confusion, and loss of consciousness. Officials advise calling 911 if heat stroke is suspected.

Health Canada recommends drinking water often, limiting sun exposure, wearing lightweight clothing, checking in on vulnerable people and never leaving children or pets inside vehicles.

Residents are encouraged to monitor alerts and forecasts from Environment Canada and report severe weather by emailing [email protected], calling 1-800-239-0484, or posting on X using #SKStorm.
