Miyo-wîcîwitowin Day event is on at Mosaic Stadium

Upwards of 10,000 expected at reconciliation event in Regina

REGINA - A major reconciliation event is on at Mosaic Stadium in Regina.

Miyo-wîcîwitowin Day is taking place today in front of 10,000 people including high school students from throughout the city. Miyo-wîcîwitowin is a Cree word which stands for walking together in a good way.

The goal of the event is to bring people together with speakers, music and dance, and survivor stories.

“On Treaty Four territory land we all share, we will gather, learn, better understand, and walk away with actions to implement the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action. Also, survivors of Residential School will be with us and this is a time to show how better change is coming to help in healing and empowering them and their kinship,” said Chief Cadmus Delorme, Cowessess First Nation & Co-chair of Miyo-wîcîwitowin Day, in a news release.

Delorme gave opening remarks welcoming people to the event. Among those scheduled to be there is Governor General Mary Simon, as well as Chief RoseAnne Archibald, National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations.

Stay tuned for more coverage of the event later today.
