REGINA - For a second day in a row, several areas of southern Saskatchewan are under severe thunderstorm watches or warnings.
Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Regina and several areas of southern Saskatchewan including Moose Jaw, Weyburn and Estevan.
According to Environment Canada, conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms across eastern Saskatchewan. The main threats will be wind gusts to 90 km/h and hail to the size of toonies.
There is also a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the R.M. of Elfros, the R.M. of Emerald, the R.M. Of Garry, the R.M. Of Kellross, the R.M. of Kelvington, R.M. Of Lakeview including Wadena, R.M. Of McLeod, R.M of Ponass Lake, R.M of Sasman, R.M. Of Stanley, and for Ituna, Hubbard, Foam Lake and Fishing Lake Reserve and areas.
According to Environment Canada, their meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms.
“At 2:45 PM CST Doppler RADAR indicated that this line of severe thunderstorms was located between Ituna and northeast of Quill Lake and was moving toward the northeast at 5 km/h. The main threats from this severe thunderstorm will be: rainfall in excess of 75 mm. Fast-moving and rapidly rising water can sweep vehicles away and damage infrastructure.”
Earlier on Friday morning, there was a tornado warning in place in the Chaplin area as a low pressure system moved through the province. Social media posts reported the storm also produced a large dumping of hail in the area.
