REGINA - There is a new Lieutenant Governor, but the same tradition of a Canada Day celebration at Government House.
The Lieutenant Governor’s Canada Day Celebration will take place July 1 from 1 to 4 p.m., hosted by Their Honours Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre and Rich McIntyre. This is the first Canada Day celebration for McIntyre since taking on the role earlier this year.
The event is open to the public and as usual will offer a number of activities and entertainment, with shows on the Main Stage and attractions inside and outside Government House.
The schedule for the day has been announced and many of the attractions will be familiar ones to those seen in previous years. According to a news release, the main stage features the following performances:
1 p.m. - Kung Fu Regina’s Lion Dancers.
1:30 p.m. - The Austrian Edelweiss Dance Group.
2 p.m. - Saskatchewan RCMP Pipes, Drums and Dancers.
2:45 p.m. - Greetings from Lt. Governor Bernadette McIntyre and the singing of O Canada.
2:45 p.m. - The Bromantics – described as "a crowd-pleasing rock and roll and doo-wop band."
There will be seating near the stage, but you can also bring a lawn chair or blanket.
On the Government House grounds will be KAOS Dogsports shows between 1:15 and 3 p.m., “Spider-Man”, “Elsa” & “Anna” from Storybook Princess Parties between 1:30 and 3 p.m., Saskatchewan Science Centre shows at 2:10 & 2:30 p.m., as well as HMCS Queen Bouncy Castle and Magic Party Bubble Bouncer as well as Face Painting throughout the afternoon.
Indoors will be the Government House Historical Society’s Vintage and Collectibles Sale from noon to 4 p.m., a new exhibit of paintings of Regina locations in the Queen Elizabeth II Art Gallery, and the Amédée Forget Museum will be open as well. There will also be performances by the Regina Classical Guitar Society.
As always there are plenty of food and drinks with complimentary popcorn, lemonade and water, with burgers, hot dogs, chips, snow cones and soft drinks for sale.
According to their news release the Canada Day festivities will take place rain or shine. If it rains, the festivities will be moved inside Government House. Free parking is available to the east of the venue.
