Sask. Lt. Gov. meets with King Charles III

LONDON, UK — Saskatchewan Lt. Gov. Russ Mirasty and his wife, Donna Mirasty, met with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace Tuesday.

The couple presented the King with two gifts, including a beaded medallion representing the Lieutenant Governor's crest, created by Cathy Lavallee of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.

They also informed His Majesty that the Government of Saskatchewan had made a donation in his name to the Embracing Life Initiative (EL), an organization that aims to reduce self-harm and suicide among northern Saskatchewan youth.

Lt. Gov. Mirasty, who serves as the Honorary Patron of EL, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to discuss his province with the King and to extend congratulations and best wishes to him on behalf of the people of Saskatchewan.

“It was a great honour to meet with the King and to thank him for his service to Canada and to the Commonwealth,” said Mirasty. “Donna and I were pleased to discuss our province with His Majesty, and to extend congratulations and best wishes to him on behalf of the people of Saskatchewan.”

The meeting, which was delayed due to the pandemic and the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, marks the first time that the Canadian vice-regal representatives have met with the Sovereign since Lt. Gov. Mirasty's swearing-in as Saskatchewan's twenty-third Lieutenant Governor in July of 2019.

Russ Mirasty was born and raised in La Ronge, and is a member of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
