WINNIPEG, Man., – A Saskatchewan man, already wanted by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), has been charged in connection with a sexual assault in Windsor Park early Saturday morning.

Miguel Villa Ramirez, 29, was arrested by Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) after a woman reported being attacked near an establishment around 12:45 a.m. on June 28.

According to WPS Sex Crimes Unit, the victim had been waiting outside for a friend when Ramirez, who had also been inside the business, approached her. He allegedly took her to a nearby bush area, where the assault occurred.

After the suspect fled, the woman screamed for help until a passerby intervened and called 911. She was taken to hospital for treatment.

Investigators used surveillance footage to identify Ramirez, leading to his arrest later that evening. Police confirmed he was also wanted on an outstanding CBSA warrant at the time.

Ramirez has been charged with sexual assault and remains in custody. Authorities haven’t disclosed details about the CBSA warrant but say the investigation is ongoing. WPS hasn't revealed where in Saskatchewan Ramirez is from.

The Winnipeg Police Service say they are committed to providing support to survivors of sexual assault. Resources include WPS Victim Services at 204-986-6350 and the Klinic Sexual Assault Crisis Line at 204-786-8631.
