REGINA - The City of Regina and a large portion of southern Saskatchewan is under severe thunderstorm watches Thursday afternoon.
The watches are also in effect for Moose Jaw, Estevan, Weyburn, Assiniboia, Gravelbourg, Davidson and several other communities and RMs in southern Saskatchewan.
According to Environment Canada:
"Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and this evening over portions of southern Saskatchewan. The main threats with these thunderstorms will be - hail to the size of golf balls - wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h. Thunderstorms will exit the region this evening."
Environment Canada is encouraging people to be prepared for severe weather, and if it approaches to take cover in a basement or interior room. Those outside will want to protect yourself from flying debris and hail.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.
There are also Air Quality Warnings in effect for much of the north and east portion of the province on Thursday.
