Residents of La Loche are set to return home Aug. 8.

REGINA - The main news from the update of Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency for Aug. 9 is that the Council for the Northern Village of La Loche has terminated their Declaration of Local Emergency.

The directive took effect at 9 a.m. on Friday and that means evacuees will be able to return to the community.

According to the Northern Village of La Loche's Facebook page:

"Council held a Special Meeting this evening and passed a resolution to terminate the Declaration of Local Emergency for the Northern Village of La Loche effective tomorrow, Aug. 8, 2025 at 9 a.m. This is based on the fact that the Park Fire is no longer in close proximity to our community thanks to the firefighting efforts of so many.

"Lifting the State of Local Emergency will also make it possible for our local businesses and services to resume full-service provision. Especially, the La Loche Health Centre, the RCMP and the Post Office."

SPSA reports that buses are scheduled to transport evacuees back to La Loche Friday evening.

As of 10:30 a.m. on Friday there are 86 active wildfires in the province. Of those, six are categorized as contained, 15 are not contained, 48 are ongoing assessments, and 17listed as protecting values.

12 communities are under an evacuation order: Clearwater River Dene Nation; Resort Subdivision of Lac La Plonge; La Plonge Reserve; Northern Hamlet of Jans Bay; Resort Subdivision of Ramsey Bay; Patuanak/English River First Nation; Northern Village of Pinehouse; Canoe Lake Cree First Nation/Canoe Narrows; Resort Subdivision of Little Amyot Lake, as well as priority individuals from the Northern Village of Beauval; Northern Hamlet of Cole Bay; and Île-à-la-Crosse.
