YORKTON - Wilfred Winand is $100,000 wealthier thanks to the Extra he added to his ticket on the Oct. 21 Lotto Max draw. He won by matching the last six digits of the winning number – 5060879.

Winand purchased his ticket from Royal Drug Mart at 135-3 Ave. E in Melville the day before the draw. He found out about his win a few days later – but was first confused by the number on the self-checker.

“At first I thought it was a million,” the Yorkton resident recalled with a laugh as he claimed his prize, noting once he counted the zeroes and realized he had won $100,000 he wasn’t at all disappointed.

“I still felt a whoopee!” he laughed. “My wife had a big smile when I told her; she kept saying ‘Are you sure?’”

To prove the win was legitimate, the couple headed to another store to scan their ticket again. But his wife still didn’t believe.

“She went on the iPad and manually checked the numbers!” chuckled Winand.

The happy winner said he has a few plans for his windfall – including some sightseeing up north.

“Our first trip will be to Alaska and the Yukon. After seeing them on a bulletin board last summer, we bought the travel book and everything!” he said.
