REGINA — With the Air Canada strike coming to an end, Regina International Airport has confirmed most mainline flights to and from the airport with Air Canada have been restored.
James Bogusz, Regina Airport Authority (RAA) CEO, said on Thursday that all flights to and from Vancouver and departure flights to Toronto with Air Canada are up and running again.
Bogusz said he was “very impressed” with Air Canada’s uptime, considering the airline earlier this week suggested it would take anywhere from seven to 10 days before all flights were restored.
For those with the ability to confirm their attendance on an Air Canada flight, Bogusz said you should be good to go.
In the event a person is waiting for re-accommodation, Bogusz suggested staying updated as Air Canada continues to directly communicate with passengers.
Regina International Airport saw flights halted from Air Canada starting last Thursday night, which included three daily flights to Toronto and one to Vancouver with their mainline flights or Air Canada Rouge.
Bogusz said usually 550 to 600 departing passengers daily use Air Canada’s mainline or Air Canada Rouge.
While most Air Canada flights were halted, Air Canada’s Jazz flights continued operating from Regina to Vancouver and Montreal.
Overall, roughly 35 per cent of all Air Canada flights make up the airport’s total seat volume.
Bogusz called August a “peak travel season,” with people visiting family or friends and also travelling to the U.S. and Europe.
“So it's very welcome that we've got these planes back in the market, and I know for customers who need these flights [it's] very welcomed as well.”
