Regina will decide on the new energy framework at its June 11th city council meeting.

REGINA — The City of Regina is looking to move forward with a long-term strategy to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

Per approval of a motion, the city could adopt the Energy & Sustainability Framework (ESF).

The framework would see a portion of savings found from the cancellation of carbon pricing charge and in the 2026 budget to be allocated towards projects that align with the ESF.

The motion would also direct city administration to review and recommend updates to Regina’s storm water utility fees.

Per approval,  Regina would use Saskatoon’s example of a runoff-based charge for commercial properties.

"Residential properties are charged a fixed rate of one ERU per month, while commercial, industrial and multi-residential properties are charged based on their calculated ERU count," notes Saskatoon’s website.

City council will make a final decision on the motion June 11.

Per approval, administration would then report back to city council in Q3 of 2025.
