REGINA – A 30-year-old Regina man is facing multiple charges after allegedly threatening a victim with a weapon and attempting to evade police on a bicycle Monday afternoon.

The incident began around 2 p.m. on June 2, when Regina Police Service (RPS) officers were called to the 1800 block of 11th Avenue following reports of a weapons offence. Witnesses told police that a suspect had threatened another individual with a weapon.

RPS Alternative Response Officers (AROs), already in the area on an unrelated call, quickly located the victim, who identified the suspect as he fled eastbound on 11th Avenue. Patrol officers were alerted and soon spotted the man riding a bicycle. When ordered to stop, the suspect refused and turned into an alley near St. John Street.

During the pursuit, the suspect lost control of his bike and fell to the ground. A police cruiser, unable to avoid him in time, struck the suspect at a low speed. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called, and the man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A search of the suspect uncovered two knives and bear mace. Lester Alvin Flavel, 30, was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, assault with a weapon, obstruction of a peace officer, and uttering threats.

Flavel is scheduled to appear in Regina Provincial Court on July 16.
