Tourism Regina establishes a presence at YQR airport

New Tourism Regina booth will sell line of “I Love Regina” themed merchandise inside the terminal.

REGINA – Tourism Regina are branching out to a new kiosk inside the Regina International Airport.

The new visitor kiosk was opened Friday with officials representing tourism, the city and the airport on hand. It represents another step forward in expanding Tourism Regina’s merchandising and marketing efforts this year.

Earlier in 2025 Tourism Regina had launched a line of gift merchandise aimed at visitors to the city. Those items include T-shirts, scents, candles, and a squishmallow based on Regina’s official bird, the Black-capped Chickadee.

Those had been on sale at city hall during the week, but the booth at the airport will now expand those offerings to tourists arriving or departing at the terminal as well.

Jennifer Johnson, deputy city manager of communications, service Regina & tourism, said it was “super important” to have a presence at the airport.

“We're really excited to be able to offer this merchandise here at the airport. It's a convenient way for people to browse and shop. And people love bringing home a memory of the city they visited. So to be able to have this right here at the airport is really important to us and we're super excited both for our residents and for our visitors.”

Johnson noted I Love Regina merchandise had not been available for sale in person for a number of years, and it was her priority to make it available.

“We did have I Love Regina merchandise for sale online before. However, it's nice to be able to see items in person. It's nice to be able to get them in real time. And particularly at the airport, you're flying in or flying home, you're only here for a couple hours and now you can just grab your merchandise and get on your plane.”

The visitor kiosk will be staffed by Tourism Regina staff from Wednesday through Sunday. Johnson said they will be able to help with trip planning, answer questions about the city and provide ideas on what to visit, as well as sell the merchandise available.

With the merchandise also available Monday to Friday at city hall, it means the items will be available for sale somewhere in Regina during all seven days of the week.

Johnson said that since the launch of the merchandise line earlier this year, sales have gone quite well.

“We've sold over a hundred items so far, a combination of the T-shirts, the Squishmallow Chickadee, the candle, the Tourism Regina socks ... and we think that sales here at the airport will be even busier.”

The I Love Regina T-shirts, in a variety of colours, have been the most popular.

As for what they plan to do to expand even further, Johnson says they plan to offer even more items in the future, which will be announced when they are offered for sale. She also said they are looking at some additional retail locations potentially for next summer, but details are still being worked out.

James Bogusz, CEO of Regina Airport Authority, said the airport is “very proud of the partnership we have with Tourism Regina, as it's critical for the visitor economy that people are proud of hopefully coming back to Regina for a future visit.”

The location of the Tourism Regina kiosk is in the pre-departure area, right between the area where people check in their luggage and the arrivals area where the baggage carousels are located.

The location is “intentionally very central, right in our main circulation core,” said Bogusz.

“When you come down the iconic escalators and staircase that we have here in Regina, you will see immediately a welcoming smile, but also some wonderful merchandise to be able to purchase on your arrival. Or, if you're picking up friends and family, and you're dwelling by the baggage carousel, it is located right in eyesight. We want maximum visibility. We want to make sure that people are not only proud of their city, but they do also have an opportunity to purchase something here at the airport to represent that pride.”

Bogusz pointed to the importance of having something visible in the airport that tells arrivals they are in Regina.

“We are proudly the 15th busiest airport in the entire country, and of course the capital of Saskatchewan.

“We are Southern Saskatchewan's gateway, and we want to represent that in the way we look, the way we feel, but also the products and services that are available right here at YQR. And having this enhancement to the tourism info booth, with products from our beautiful city, does exactly that.”
