ASSINIBOIA - Local author Jerry Hack had a point to make when he was told he couldn’t do it ... and he went out and proved them wrong.

The former NHL hockey player has wrote about his start as a floor hockey goalie to senior men’s hockey. Jerry was at the Southland Co-op Centre to promote his book on Feb .18 and 19 and sign copies for anyone.

In Jerry’s Own words:

“Memoir of a Hockey Nobody is all about my hockey Journey. After starting to play ice hockey at the age of 18 I was able to improve enough to want to take the next step, which was to play professionally.

“It was the longest of long shots but when I found an ad in the paper stating that a team in Saskatchewan was looking for a goalie and they were willing to negotiate a salary; I jumped at the chance.

“I paid my own way out from British Columbia and entered a world for which I was not ready. Luck being on my side I managed to make the team and played for three and a half years here. My journey continued afterwards with stops in Fresno California and Whitehorse Yukon.

“But I always said my time in Assiniboia was the best time of my life. I made lifelong friends and really just had a lot of fun and a lot of success. It was not always easy but what journey is?

“The book has a lot of stories about the crazy people I met along the way. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. One has to wonder how different my life would have been had I not answered that ad. I would like to thank everybody in Assiniboia for accepting me as one of their own. It is, and always will be, my second home.”
