Finlayson Island, in the North Saskatchewan River near Battleford, is often visited by the Pileated Woodpecker. These are colourful birds and you can often hear them drumming on a tree before you actually see them. From head to tail, they are about 16-19 inches long. They like to visit trees that are infested with insects, which often have woodpecker holes that are used for nesting. Design all around.
