SASKATOON — Saskatoon police are investigating following several bear spray incidents Wednesday and Thursday. In all cases, the suspects had disappeared before police could get there.
Shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 21, police were called to a business in the 800 block of 22nd Street West where officers located a man suffering from the effects of bear spray. The suspect had fled before police arrived.
Earlier, at around 5 a.m. on Aug. 21, police had been called to the 200 block of Langevin Crescent for a similar incident. Officers located a man suffering from the effects of bear spray, but the suspect fled prior to their arrival, and a description was not available.
The previous evening, shortly after 9 p.m. on Aug. 20, police were called to an address on Maxwell Crescent for a report of a weapon. Upon arrival, police say, they learned a man had been approached by a group of youth and bear-sprayed. The suspects then fled.
At around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 20, police were called to a business in the 1700 block of Preston Avenue North for a report of a robbery in progress. Upon arrival, officers learned that two women attempting to leave with merchandise they had not paid for were confronted by security guards. Police say they were told the women discharged bear spray and fled the area. Police are continuing to investigate.
At around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 20, police were called to a business in the 3100 block of Preston Avenue South for a report of an injured person. Upon arrival, officers located a security guard suffering from the effects of bear spray. The suspect had fled in an unknown direction prior to police arrival.
