Years of Experience: Eight

The Carievale 4-H Beef Club, and 4-H clubs in general, have a lot to offer members in different age groups, says Karissa Elliott, who is the club’s president for this year.

Elliott said it’s fun to get her steer ready for the 4-H Show and Sale that takes place each year. And through 4-H, she has been to Agribition for team grooming, an experience that she really enjoyed, and she has spent a lot of time with her friends in 4-H.

“I’ve went in the curling bonspiel before,” said Elliott. “I get special credits for school from 4-H.”

Elliott joined 4-H because her grandfather and her father were involved with the organization when they were younger. They talked about what a great experience it is for children. And now they are happy to help the kids get their steers ready each year.

A lot of her friends were part of the club, too.

“I’ve always liked cows,” said Elliott.

She learned a lot about different types of breeds, and how to groom and halter-break them.

Elliott said she would recommend 4-H to her friends, because it’s a great time and they get to learn new things. The club in Carievale is a good one, with dedicated kids, and parents and leaders willing to help out.
