Assiniboia Town Council receives RCMP, fire department reports

There is a new acting Sergeant that will be with the Assiniboia department for six months, Corporal Tamlin.

ASSINIBOIA - The Assiniboia Council met for a meeting at Town Hall on October 4.

In attendance were Mayor Sharon Schauenberg; Councillors Robert Ellert, Kent Fettes, Patrick Grondin, Graham Harvey, and Renee Clermont; CAO Clint Mauthe and Kerri Martin. The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.

Public Acknowledgements were given to: Tom Stanley, Fire Chief Chuck Rust, RCMP officer Constable Giroux, Stephanie VanDeSype, and the Assiniboia Times.

Agenda adopted as presented with the moving of delegation for Leroy Starkes moved to correspondence. Moved by Ellert/Fettes.

Minutes of Regular Council Meeting Sept 13 approved as presented.  Moved by Grondin/Harvey. Minutes of the Assiniboia Museum of August 17 approved as presented.  Moved by Ellert/Fettes.

Public Delegations

RCMP report presented Constable Giroux  There is a new acting Sergeant that will be with the Assiniboia department for six months, Corporal Tamlin.

Council expressed concern regarding lack of adequate coverage for this area with the staff shortage in the detachment. Report accepted as presented. Moved by Fettes/Clermont.

Fire Department Report presented by Chuck Rust. Reported 25 calls in the last quarter of the year.  Fire presentations were held at the 7th Avenue School and the Elementary School on October 12.

A pancake breakfast in conjunction with Fire Prevention Week will be held on Saturday, on Oct 15.

Concern raised with a house on Third Street that is a safety issue. Discussion on the feasibility of a new fire hall and new fire truck. Accepted. Moved by Fettes/Clermont.

Administration reports

Report given by Clint Mauthe.  Very busy month wrapping up summer projects and getting ready for winter.  Plans continue for projects for 2023 including: new street lights, main sewer replacement on First Ave. West.

Discussion on dead tree removal behind the town shop and the best option to do it. Report accepted as presented. 

Financial activity report accepted. List of paid accounts accepted as given.    All items moved by Clermont/Kordus.

Request for decision

List of land in arrears added to taxes.

Civic Centre discussion: what are the options for the old civic centre now the new facility is in operation. 

Stephanie VanDeSype reports they have made contact with Ritchie Brothers Auction to move ahead with selling all contents inside the building and recapturing some funds from that sale.  The outdoor skating rink will stay in place for this winter, with looking at moving it downtown to the new centre for next year. Motion made to accept Ellert/Harvey.  

Mayor Schauenberg and Council members gave individual reports as to the meetings and functions attended since last meeting.
