ASSINIBOIA - The Assiniboia Town Council held a regular council meeting on November 29. In attendance were: Mayor Sharon Schauenberg; Councillors Robert Ellert, Kent Fettes, Patrick Grondin, Graham Harvey, Peter Kordus and Reneé Clermont; CAO  Clint Mauthe; and Kerri Martin, director of corporate Services.

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m.

Public acknowledgements were given to RCMP Corporal Tamlin, Staff Sergeant Tim Sardison and Ashley Burnay, Curtis Nelson and Assiniboia Times. 

Agenda adopted as presented. Moved by Fettes/Kordus.

Minutes of Last Meeting Nov. 8 approved and adopted as presented.  Moved by Ellert/Kordus.

Other minutes adopted included: minutes of the Planning and Development Committee; minutes of the Finance and Admin Committee for Oct. 4, minutes of the Prince of Wales for Sept. 6 and Oct. 13, and the minutes of Assiniboia and District Museum for Sept, 21. All approved and accepted as presented. Moved by Fettes/Clermont.

RCMP report accepted as presented. Assiniboia Detachment Commander Corporal Tamlim gave update to council. New officer coming to town. Upcoming meeting with surrounding communities regarding staffing concerns. Currently in Assiniboia there are five positions for members. 

COP (Citizens on Patrol) program presented by Ashley Burney to council. The foundation for this program is being laid, manuals and bylaws and the hope is to see it in function in 2023. This is a pilot project that will hopefully become a provincial project.

The community were invited to come out and help decorate the detachment , held on Dec. 11.

Curtis Nelson spoke on behalf of the Assiniboia Regional Park Golf Course regarding the Golf Cart storage shed project. An update was given on donations for project. Construction will begin Spring 2023  The shed will house 75 carts and will be electrified for plugging in.

Correspondence received from: SUMA update; Assiniboia and District Chamber of Commerce Invitation; media advisory - local government education; PBI November Newsletter; Housing Authority Letter; and the 2022 Fuel Good Day. All correspondence accepted as presented. Moved by Grondin/Harvey.

Administration report from Clint Mauthe. Town crews were very busy keeping up with snow removal. Reports the rubber plant has now been listed for sale with good interest shown. The old rink will be listed next week with Ritchie Brothers.  Sale will be December 14. 

Financial activity accepted as given and approved. List of paid accounts accepted as given and approved.Moved by Fettes/Grondin.

Request for Decision

RM 72, discretionary request to put a sea can behind the office. Council has approved the request.  Moved by Ellert/Fettes.

Loraas Grant 2022.   This year funds will be donated to Assiniboia Soccer Association. Moved by Clermont/Harvey.

Centre Street utility service tender quote accepted from Walker Engineering for utility line replacement of Centre Street. Moved by Grondin/Kordus.

St. George Church requested to consolidate lots for parking. Approved by council.

Councillors and Mayor Sharon presented reports on the meetings and functions they had all attended since the last meeting.

The next meeting of city council will be held on Tuesday, December 13.
