Summer art programs for kids

There is something to interest children of all ages at the Signal Hill Arts Centre this summer. The preschooler, between the ages of 3 and 5 years, can enjoy an eight-week art program on Tuesday or Thursday between 10 and 11 a.m.

There is something to interest children of all ages at the Signal Hill Arts Centre this summer.

The preschooler, between the ages of 3 and 5 years, can enjoy an eight-week art program on Tuesday or Thursday between 10 and 11 a.m. This begins June 22 for the Tuesday program and June 24 for the Thursday program. Preschoolers will learn about different artistic mediums and enjoy the creative summer themes of stories, songs and games. This program has special family rates.

For children ages 5 to 11 years, there is a special 7-week program held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from July 5 to August 20 between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. This program will include a variety of art projects using many different materials.

Participants will interact during activities that incorporate some elements of drama, music, art history, outdoor activities, tours, special guests, leisure and sport. There will also be some educational experiences touching on subjects like multiculturalism, family, health, diet, safety and the environment. This program accommodates daily drop-ins or weekly drop-ins with special family rates.

"Just for Girls" is for young girls between 12 and 15 years of age. This program runs Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning July 6 and running until August 5, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Girls will learn about makeup, hair, nail art, detailed crafts, exercise, and healthy and nutritious eating as they make new friends, increase self-esteem and have fun.

Registration for these programs is taking place now and can be done in-person or by mail at the Signal Hill Arts Centre or the Weyburn Leisure Centre.
