ESTEVAN - For the second straight year, the City of Estevan has been forced to announce the cancellation of its Innovation Conference.

"The City of Estevan would like to thank everyone for their interest in the Estevan 2022 Innovation Conference," the city said in a news release issued Thursday morning. "In light of the University of Regina’s unfortunate circumstance of having to step back from being a co-host, as well as the lack of availability of our corporate partners, the City of Estevan and its innovation council have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2022 Innovation Conference," the city said in a news release.

"We are excited to continue celebrating how our community progressively embraces innovation across multiple sectors and we look forward to showcasing all that Estevan has to offer through other events in the near future."

The city said it looks forward to continuing its relationship with the University of Regina in other ventures and they want to thank all the speakers, sponsors and partners for their consideration.

"We appreciate your understanding, and your patience, in this matter."

The innovation conference was to take place Sept. 23 and 24, with the bulk of the activities at the Southeast College's Estevan campus. A number of speakers had been lined up for the first day, and then people were to bring their ideas for innovations at the Start-up Pitch Launch on the second day.

The conference was to happen last year but was cancelled. Concern over the COVID-19 pandemic was cited as the cause.
