"We were very excited to hear that we had won the community involvement award, and are extremely happy to be recognized for all the community work that we do," said Ryan Thompson, manager of Border Line Feeders.
The award for community involvement goes to a business demonstrating exceptional performance in its support of the arts and culture, amateur sports, education or volunteer groups. Judging took into account the relative size of the business.
Greater consideration is given for involvement that is not an extension of the firm's main business activities.
"The other finalists in that category do a lot of good things for their community, and ultimately it was nice to see all those finalists get recognized," said Thompson.
Border Line Feeders operates a feedlot that was built by and supports local producers and residents. It has developed a Community Investment Program, and through this program, as well as through other sponsorship opportunities, the company supports arts and culture, amateur sport, education, health care and volunteer community groups.
Other local finalists at the ABEX awards were Southern Industrial and Trucking, growth and expansion; Weyburn Inland Terminal, marketing; United Centrifuge, community involvement; and Don Kraft, manager of the Weyburn Co-operative Association, business leader of the year.
