Alida News - harvest continues

Crops aren’t as plentiful as in past years
Alida Weekly News
Not only are the grain farmers suffering the cattle owners are too.

Eleanor Harrison accompanied her friend Pat to Dauphin, MB on August 15 to spend a few days visiting and renewing acquaintances with friends in that area.

Everyone is busy now with harvest – the combines are going strong as well as the grain trucks. Crops aren’t as plentiful as in the past years, but with the weather conditions of unbearable heat most of the time with no moisture; I guess one shouldn’t expect a bumper crop. However I do hope that most farmers will make a little bit of money, at least help to pay for the expenses incurred this spring.

Not only are the grain farmers suffering the cattle owners are too – their hay crops are really down this year, lucky if they get half the amount of bales as they normally do. It’s a tough year – but I guess one has to grin and bear it, for this year anyway – and hope for a better year next year. Yup Farming is definitely a “Next Year” occupation. However good luck guys and gals with this year’s harvesting. Be careful out there.

The last swimming lessons for this year’s season has been completed and once again I sure that the swimmers were successful in their course. The swimming pool is still open in the afternoons for swimming – hopefully you’ll be able to enjoy the remaining days at the pool. At least hope to see you at the “free swim” and activities on Thursday which is sponsored by the Prairie Pride CU – have fun and enjoy the BBQ as well.

Well kids enjoy your last days (10) of summer – then it will be back to school on September 1. Do hope you all had a great summer.
