Arrest of wanted B.C. man turns into drug trafficking investigation in Estevan

An arrest of wanted B.C. man in Estevan led to further charges.

ESTEVAN - Estevan police arrested wanted B.C. man in Estevan.

EPS members from the patrol and K-9 units located a man with outstanding arrest warrants near an Estevan downtown establishment.  

As officers were attempting to take him into custody, he fled on foot. At that time, the K9 unit was deployed and the subject was apprehended.

A search incidental to his arrest revealed a substance believed to be cocaine.

The 26-year-old man from Vancouver will be charged with the following offences:

  • Trafficking in cocaine contrary to Section 5(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
  • Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; and
  • Resisting arrest contrary to Section 129 of the Criminal Code.

He will be held in custody and taken before a Justice of the Peace to be remanded for court on May 16. 

The accused will also be given a new court date to answer to charges that he was wanted for in another Saskatchewan jurisdiction.

His name was not immediately released.
