Assiniboia Rotary Club fundraises for Shelter Boxes for Ukraine

The Rotary Club were approached by Shelter Box, an organization that goes to areas that are experiencing a disaster to provide support to the peoples in these areas.

ASSINIBOIA - The Rotary Club of Assiniboia have taken on a project in the past three months to raise funds to the families affected by the war in the Ukraine.

The Rotary Club were approached by Shelter Box, an organization that goes to areas that are experiencing a disaster to provide support to the peoples in these areas.

A few fundraisers were held by the Rotary Club to send support to the program. Among the fundraisers included selling 50/50 tickets, and a Sud and Supper fundraiser.

Dave Meagher donated a metal Roughrider sign to the Rotary Club, which was then placed into a silent auction fundraiser.

Layne Headrick won the 50/50 draw, and donated $1,000 back to the Rotary Club. Rotary member Walter Hutchinson donated $1,200.

In total, the Assiniboia Rotary Club raised $10,201 for the Shelter Box organization. As a shelter tent costs over $1,000, this will allow the Assiniboia Rotary Club to provide at least eight tents, along with other important comforts to fleeing families.

“The partnership between Rotary and ShelterBox has provided a place of refuge to people facing some of the most difficult and uncertain moments in their lives,” said John Hewko, Rotary International General Secretary.

Recently, the Assiniboia Rotary Club have hosted a monthly trivia night, on the first Monday of every month, at the Bar B.

This is a fun light-hearted evening, where people make up teams, enjoy a support and participate in four rounds of trivia. The fee to attend the Trivia Nights are $5 per person. This event is sponsored by various businesses around town, who provide small prizes to be handed out to the winner of each rouch. The Bar B has donated a grand prize of a pizza for the winning team.

There will be a Family Trivia Night held at the Bar B on Monday, June 6. This event is open to all ages, and the questions will be geared to families.
