Weyburn's cenotaph, located in Memorial Park next to City Hall, was defaced by vandals over the weekend, with the face of the soldier defaced to look like the "Joker" from the Batman movies, while the word "Deathsayer" was written across the base of the soldier, which city worker Lawrence Bisson is working on to remove on Monday afternoon. Slogans were also written on the granite memorial below the soldier, both on the front and in back, and those were removed; the marker used on the soldier soaked into the stone, however, and was very difficult to remove. Mayor Debra Button commented, "I'm deeply disappointed at whoever this was chose to air their beefs like that; this is so disrespectful, especially right before Remembrance Day. It was cowardly; I hope the person or persons who did it comes forward and takes their lumps."
