Charges laid for jail cell damage

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of November 28 to December 4:

During the reporting period, the police attended 83 calls for service.

*Several officers provided D.A.R.E. training classes to Grade 6 students. D.A.R.E. is a program that encourages students to resist a lifestyle of alcohol, drugs and violence. The program involves 17 instructional sessions. At the end of the instruction a graduation ceremony will be held and students will be recognized for their involvement.

*Residents are being reminded to tarp loads securely when hauling to the landfill. Tarping is mandatory and significant fines could result from not complying with the bylaw.

*A new program is in place to encourage citizens to report impaired drivers. Report Impaired Drivers ("RID") is generating several calls that identify possible impaired drivers. These calls are helpful to police in apprehending people who drive impaired.

*On December 4, a domestic dispute on the 300 block of Eighth Avenue South was attended to by police.

*On December 3, a large house party was attended to on the 100 block of Third Avenue South. The party was cleared out. Police gave warnings under the noise bylaw. Similar behavior in the future will result in charges.

*A shop-lifter was apprehended after stealing merchandise from the Fas Gas Esso.

*A patron at the King George Hotel was charged for failing to leave the outlet after creating a disturbance. He was arrested and later charged criminally for damaging a cell at the Weyburn Police Service.

*On December 2, a business on the 1500 block of Railway Avenue reported thefts from several of its fleet trucks. The matter is being investigated.

*Police assisted the SPCA in dealing with a dog owner on the 200 block of First Street.

*Regular patrols were requested by a homeowner on the 500 block of King Street. Young people were reported congregating to smoke marijuana in the alley ways.

*On December 1, police attended to reports of domestic violence at a residence on the 400 block of First Avenue. Alcohol was involved as both persons were highly intoxicated. Both received minor injuries.

*On November 30, a rifle was reported stolen from a residence on the 300 block of Lorraine Street. The matter is being investigated.

*A semi hauling an over-sized load was reported to have been driving in an unsafe manner. One motorist was forced to hit the ditch. The matter is still being investigated.

*A dispute between homeowner and tenant was attended to on the 300 block of Government Road. Alcohol was involved. The matter was resolved with a warning.

*Police attended a disturbance at the King George when a patron refused to leave the premises.

*A complaint on November 29 is being investigated concerning a truck dumping household garbage on 16th Street North. This is an ongoing problem on roads surrounding the city. Charges are pending.

*Police responded to a disturbance at Crescent Point Place involving two women assaulting each other.

*On November 28, police responded to a complaint on the 200 block of First Street. A dog was reported to being kept on a short chain and not being cared for well. The matter was resolved without charges.
