City police kept busy with accidents, noisy parties

The Weyburn Police Service attended to a total of 98 calls of service between the dates of May 9 and 15; of these, there was a total of 15 false alarm calls that the police attended to.

A 41-year-old male was arrested and charged with uttering threats against members of the Weyburn Police Service on May 9. The male subject made his first court appearance and was held in custody for a mental health evaluation.

Also on May 9, police received a complaint of a hit-and-run accident that occurred while the vehicle was parked on Industrial Lane in Weyburn. There are no suspects in the incident.

Police received a complaint of a vehicle hitting a tree in the alley behind Montgomery Crescent shortly after 7 p.m. on May 10. The three occupants of the vehicle were seen exiting the vehicle, and the vehicle was seized and towed. No charges were laid in the incident.

On May 11, shortly after 3 p.m., city police received another report of a hit-and-run accident. This one occurred on Third St. South in Weyburn. There are no suspects.

Police received a complaint of a theft from a local business in Weyburn on May 11. The incident is still under investigation and no charges have been laid at this time.

City police attended to a fight between two females on Fifth Street on May 12. Both the females are young offenders and have been charged with causing a disturbance by fighting.

Around 9 p.m. on May 12, police received a complaint of a vehicle being damaged while parked in the McKenna Hall parking lot. There are no suspects yet in the incident.

City police attended to a complaint of a noisy stereo on May 13. The subject was cautioned about the noise bylaw in Weyburn, and no charges were laid.

A 43-year-old man fell off his bicycle on Fourth Street near the police station on May 14, and sustained a head injury. EMS attended to the scene and the man was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

Shortly after midnight on May 15, city police attended to a noisy party in the 400 block of Fifth St. The occupants of the residence were warned about the noise bylaw.

Police stopped a vehicle on Highway 39 for speeding around 2:30 a.m. on May 15. As a result of the stop, a 48-year-old man was charged with driving while over .08. He will make his first court appearance on June 14.

City police attended to a complaint of loud music coming from a residence early the morning of May 15. The occupants of the residence were warned about the noise bylaw.

Also on May 15, the police received several complaints of young persons riding unlicensed dirt bikes and quads in back alleys and on the streets around the city of Weyburn. The Weyburn Police Service would like to remind the residents of Weyburn that riding quads or unlicensable dirt bikes within the city limits is illegal and could result in a ticket being issued.

The Grade 6 students at both Haig School and Queen Elizabeth School had their DARE Graduations on May 9. This is the 12th annual DARE graduation in the Weyburn schools. DARE is taught to the Grade 6 students and is designed to teach students about the harmful affects of drugs and alcohol.

Also this week, May 9 to 13, the Weyburn police attended to all the elementary schools in Weyburn to assist with the Kidsport hot dog lunches. The Weyburn Police also did Bike Roadeos at three elementary schools in Weyburn this week, on Wednesday at Assiniboia Park Elementary School, Thursday at Haig School, and Friday at Souris School. St. Dominic Savio School's bike roadeo took place on May 17.
