REGINA - The Saskatchewan Health Authority has advised Prairie Valley School Division (PVSD) it has declared COVID-19 outbreaks at Kipling School and at the James Hamblin School in Qu’Appelle.

An outbreak is declared when two or more cases of transmission occur within a specific classroom or school environment.

In a statement issued Sept. 20, the PVSD said there has been a total of 11 positive COVID-19 cases in Kipling and two cases in James Hamblin. One class at Kipling School transitioned to remote learning, starting Sept. 21 and continuing until Sept. 29.

In an update issued Sept. 21, the PVSD said it has been advised of several more cases of COVID-19 involving individuals connected with Kipling School.

“We continue to work with the Saskatchewan Health Authority on identifying individuals who were in close contact with those who tested positive,” the PVSD said. “These close contacts will receive a letter with specific instructions from the SHA.”

Prairie Valley School Division is working closely with the Saskatchewan Health Authority to determine close contacts to those who tested positive. These individuals will be advised in writing on next steps.

“These outbreaks are a reminder that Saskatchewan is currently dealing with an extremely infectious COVID variant, and outbreaks can occur anywhere,” PVSD said in a news release. “The best defense against the spread of COVID-19 and serious illness is vaccination.

“Prairie Valley School Division is encouraging everyone to get vaccinated, as soon as they become eligible.”

The Carlyle Observer will have more details as they become available.
