Demolition of Queen Elizabeth School begun in Weyburn

Queen Elizabeth School in Weyburn was demolished within about three hours on Tuesday morning.

WEYBURN - A crew from Jerry Mainil Ltd. demolished Queen Elizabeth School on Tuesday morning, taking down the school that has stood since 1957 within about three hours.

The company had removed a number of items for salvage first, including items that were donated to community organizations and groups like the Family Place, day cares, Weyburn Lacrosse and Weyburn Minor Football, before taking the school down.

The lot will be cleared and a parking lot will be built in time for the opening of the new school year on Wednesday, Sept. 1.

The students and staff of Queen Elizabeth will now be attending the new Legacy Park Elementary School, along with students and staff from Souris and Haig Schools, which have also closed their doors.
