Fraud charges lead to court appearance

A 29-year-old Estevan man was facing several charges of fraud and being in possession of property obtained by crime after he was arrested by members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) April 13.


A 29-year-old Estevan man was facing several charges of fraud and being in possession of property obtained by crime after he was arrested by members of the Estevan Police Service (EPS) April 13.

The accused is charged with two counts of fraud exceeding $5,000 and one count of fraud not exceeding that amount and three counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

The alleged fraud, in excess of $75,000 involved a local business.

The man appeared in court on April 14 and further details concerning the appearance are included in this week's edition.

On the night of April 13, EPS members were called to a local lounge following a complaint of a suspicious vehicle in their parking lot. The occupants of the vehicle were spoken to and sent on their way and no further action was required.

Police were also called to a disturbance in the 1200 block of Fourth Street that same night. Six people were involved in the event and all were spoken to by police officers who determined that all six were known to one another and that there was no extenuating problem so the parties were sent on their way.

A 44-year-old Estevan man was charged with driving while impaired and for driving while his blood-alcohol content was over .08 per cent on the night of April 15.

On the night of April 16, a 23-year-old Estevan woman was handed a 24-hour licence suspension and the following night a 20-year-old Estevan man was arrested and lodged in cells after he stormed into the Estevan City Police Station and caused a disturbance. He was also charged with assaulting a 21-year-old man earlier in the evening at the intersection of 12th Avenue and Third Street.
