From the Carlyle Lions Den

Because of the election and the Happy Gang being the site of the advanced poll, we held our first meeting at the conference room at 8 Words Cafe with the added attraction of coffee and dessert.

Because of the election and the Happy Gang being the site of the advanced poll, we held our first meeting at the conference room at 8 Words Cafe with the added attraction of coffee and dessert.

We were pleased to welcome to the meeting new Lion Kelly Guider.

Our 2010-2011 reviewed financial statement has finally been sent off to the government department that requires it so we should be in their good books again.

As much work as possible was completed on the new camp sites at Lions Park so they should be ready for campers next spring.

Lion Gord Paulley laid a wreath on behalf of the club at the Remembrance Day Service at the Elementary School. We also donated $50 to the Legion to help cover the cost of wreaths.

November is Meals on Wheels month for the Lions Club so members are taking their turns to assist with this much needed community service.

Vision and Sight for all and all things connected to this goal are supported by Lions Clubs worldwide. To that end we were pleased to donate $200 to the CNIB.

We have also donated 10 turkeys to the local Food bank for the Christmas Hampers.

Several Lions attended the Museum's showing of the DVD they have had done through their 'Oral History' project. "Carlyle in the 30's" is an excellent production and the Lions were pleased to have been able to support it over the past two years with dollars to off set some of the cost.

We held our 48th Annual Charter Anniversary (that means 50 years of Lionism in Carlyle is coming up in 2013) on November 15th at the Happy Gang. We and guests from Kipling Lions, Lampman Lions and Fillmore Lions (these being Lion Marvin Chambers who is an International Director and his wife Lion Lynn Chambers) enjoyed a delicious beef supper catered by Shelley Slykhuis. A short program followed. Our first speaker was Jack Wilson (assisted by his technical director - his wife Diane) who did an interesting, informative and thought provoking video presentation and speech about his trip with daughter Connie to Europe. Connie was representing the Saskatchewan Legion on a tour of battle sites , memorial sites and cemeteries associated with Canadian troops during the 1st and 2nd World Wars. Our next speaker was Vice District Governor Lion Rick Pockett who brought greetings from District Governor Lion Dennis Becker. He commended the club on it's many years of service to the community both local and worldwide and encouraged many years more. He presented the club with a framed certificate. Lion Leo Grossman presented Lion Rick with a cheque for $500 to be given to the District Governor for his Lion Charities. Next the awards to Carlyle Lions were handed out by Past President Lion Larry Brady. The awards included 100% attendance pins for deserving Lions, 30 years chevrons to Lion Norm Riddell and Lion Erik Steffensen (who regrettably was absent). The Harry A. Newman Award that is available through the Canadian Diabetes Association is decided on in June by a secret ballot vote of the Lions members and the Past President keeps the secret until this awards presentation. The 2011 award was presented to Lion Myrla Holland.

November 200 Club recipient is Marvin Kreiger.

Plans are being made for Lions Club participation in the Dicken's Village Festival.
