Midale Rec board to host craft, trade and bake sale

The Midale and Area Rec Board will hold their annual Craft, Trade and Bake Sale on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 12 to 4 p.m. Tables will be $20 each and you can call Catrina Moldenhauer to book your table or to get more information.

So far the show has booths from Norwex, Music for Young Children, Scentsy, Krazy Kandles, Midale Public Library, Arbonne and Home Made Sausage confirmed. There is going to be a Weyburn Atom Hockey Tournament at the rink this day as well, so it will be a busy day.

The Remembrance Day service was attended by over 50 people. Marie Rose Boyer was the guest speaker and she talked about the fallen heroes amongst us. The service was also attended by Cpl. Aaron Toles, son of Carol and Greg Toles. There were also RCMP officers in attendance. Over $1,600 was raised for the poppy fund and the Legion members appreciated the great support from Midale and area.

The new Midale Public Library hours beginning January 3, 2012 will be: Tuesdays 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 2 to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 4 to 8 p.m. and Fridays from 10 to 2.

Public skating this week will be on Friday, Nov. 25 from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. It is mandatory for all children 12 and under to wear helmets on the ice. Public skating is free for everyone as it has been paid for again this year by the Midale Lions Club.

The Midale Mustangs will play host to the Oxbow Huskies on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 8 p.m.

The Mustangs opened up their season with a 5-3 loss to the Arcola/Kisbey Combines on Nov. 15. Their scheduled home opener was postponed by Wawota.

Berla Palmer was recognized for her many years of commitment to the Midale Central School. Berla spent countless hours as an educational assistant, bus driver, transporting students for their extracurricular trips and was also a very valuable member of the School Community Council. She will be greatly missed as she has left her position at the school to pursue a new adventure.

The Senior Boys volleyball team hosted the 3A Volleyball Conference and finished the day with a record of 3-0. The entire team played exceptionally well. Elementary volleyball had their last day on Nov. 17. They played against their parents and had a great time. Fun was had by all who participated.

Elementary and high school report cards will be issued Thursday, Nov. 24. Parent/Student/Teacher interviews will be held from 3:15 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 24. The elementary students will have scheduled interviews, while the high school students are on a come-and-go basis.

The magazine campaign has come to a close and the support was great. The top seller won a remote controlled cooler. Every order that was turned in during the entire campaign was entered in a draw for a seven-inch Tablet PC as well. There were great prizes handed out and the kids had fun competing for them.

Interdenominational Sunday school is held at the Midale Bethlehem Lutheran Church every Sunday at 9:45 a.m. for all children aged 3-12 years. Everyone is welcome.

The Midale Lions Club is having a Christmas Bingo on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Midale Seniors Centre. They are also doing a Poinsettia fundraiser. If you would like one, call Marilyn Gust or Linda Carlson. The Poinsettias cost $20 each.

On Tuesday, Nov. 22, the Midale Oilmen's Association presented the Midale Central School teachers with items off of a wish list they had them make up. Almost all of the items that were asked for were purchased by the Oilmen's for the teachers to use in their classrooms for the children. Some of the items purchased were: Boreal microscope, iPads, Kindle E-readers, Flip cameras, sewing machines, personal sized dry erase boards for the kindergarten/Grade 1 and 2 class, CD player with iPod dock and a couple of other miscellaneous items.

The last item purchased for the school was an iPod Touch that they will be raffling off to help fund the mentoring program at the school. In the spring the Midale Oilmen's Association also sponsored the AR Program at the school as well.

The Midale Oilmen's Association members are: Russ and Colleen Scharnatta, Ordean and Tara Kolke, Kelly and Tracy Orsted, Darren and Catrina Moldenhauer, Dennis and Tara-Lee McIndoe and Lyle Piper. The members put on a curling bonspiel in February and do a one-day golf tournament to raise money to put back into the community. All of their hard work is greatly appreciated and the teachers were very happy to receive things that will help make their jobs a little bit easier. The total donations made to Midale Central School this year are over $7,500.
