Police remind residents of scams

Report from the Weyburn Police Service for the week of July 25 to 31. *On July 29, police attended to a motorcycle accident in the early morning hours. A 28 year-old male was driving the motorcycle and a 21 year-old female was his passenger.

*On July 29, police attended to a motorcycle accident in the early morning hours. A 28 year-old male was driving the motorcycle and a 21 year-old female was his passenger. The driver lost control at the intersection of Fifth Avenue N. and Brimacombe Drive and struck a street light. Both riders were taken to hospital for non life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

*Police are asking for the public's assistance in solving a case of mischief. On July 29, a backhoe that was parked at the Comprehensive School had its' window broken. If you have information, you are asked to contact the Weyburn Police Service or Crime Stoppers.

*On July 28, a new four way stop was started at the intersection of 16th Street and First Avenue S.E. Drivers are asked to be cautious when using this intersection until drivers become more accustomed to the four way stop.

*A 25 year-old male from Weyburn was charged following a traffic accident on July 26th. The male was charged with leaving a stop sign before safe to do so. There were no injuries from the accident.

*On July 25, police received a complaint of a mini-van being stolen. Weyburn RCMP were able to locate the van and as a result of the investigation, a 26 year-old male from Weyburn has been charged with theft. He will be making a court appearance in August.

During the past week Police received 118 requests for assistance.

The Weyburn Police Service has received numerous calls from the public in regards to scams by computer and by phone. Police advise the public to be extremely cautious when dealing with unknown persons and to never give out any credit card information or banking information.
