According to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure weekly report, Highway 39 is closed to traffic from Estevan to Midale (northeast of Estevan) and is now being detoured east/west via Highway 13 between Weyburn and Stoughton and north/south on Highway 47 between Stoughton and Estevan. Local traffic still has access, but drivers should watch message boards for more information. This closure is needed for construction northwest of Estevan near Macoun where a one km (approx.) stretch of Highway 39's driving surface will be raised by 0.6 metres and will restore two-lane service. Water has been on the road in the area and has reduced traffic in the area to one lane.
As well, starting as early as August 6, the closure of Highway 39 may extend from Estevan to Weyburn. This closure will allow for the installation of a new 3.6-metre diameter culvert southeast of Weyburn. The detour using Highway 13 and 47 will still be in effect. Local traffic will have access, but drivers should still watch messages board for more information.
Highway 39 between Weyburn and Estevan is expected to re-open by mid August.
