Residential Clean-Up Campaign

Residential judging for the annual Clean-Up Campaign took place on June 7 with Area 5 (east of 16th Street from East Avenue North to Douglas Road) winning the competition that judged tidiness of lawns and alleys.

(L-R) The annual Clean-Up Campaign poster contest winners were Queen Elizabeth Grade 2 student Jessica Dixon, Assiniboia Park Elementary School (APES) Grade 3 student Reese Marshall, APES grade 2 student Arliss Sidloski and APES Grade 3 student Cooper Kopec. The winning posters will be displayed on the City website while the remaining poster entries will be displayed at local businesses.

Residential judging for the annual Clean-Up Campaign took place on June 7 with Area 5 (east of 16th Street from East Avenue North to Douglas Road) winning the competition that judged tidiness of lawns and alleys. Area 1 (South Hill, Elgin School area and Exhibition grounds) was the runner-up of the competition, showing the most improvement over previous years.Residential judges noted that they observed very little litter accumulation and blowing garbage. However, there were many large tree branches, long grass and weeds in back lanes.Residents are reminded to tend to the areas behind their backyard fences by cutting grass and controlling weeds before the Golden Garbage Can competition on June 21.The competition will judge the cleanliness and tidiness of the cities of Weyburn and Estevan, awarding the Golden Garbage Can to the winner and the Silver Rake to the runner-up.The competition will be judged by Public Health Inspector Ken Cross and Environment Minister Nancy Heppner.The Chamber of Commerce will be doing a local businesses clean-up competition and judging in conjunction with the residential campaign.
