Southeast Connection to hold AGM

Southeast Connection is inviting southeast municipalities to their upcoming annual general meeting scheduled for May 25 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held in Forget at the Happy Nun Café.

Southeast Connection is inviting southeast municipalities to their upcoming annual general meeting scheduled for May 25 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held in Forget at the Happy Nun Café.

During the meeting, Southeast Connection will report on activities of the past year and proposed constitution amendments will be brought forth to the membership for consideration. Special presentations will be made by Susan Hengen of Kipling, who will share their community best practice on energy efficient facilities and Laura McCarron, Coordinator of Southeast Connection, who will highlight the success of the 2010 "Take the Lead" program showcasing participating schools including White City, Montmartre, Whitewood, Grenfell and Carlyle.

"This is an important event for sport, culture and recreation professionals and volunteers to attend, as their input into the District is valued," said Joni Hagen, executive director of Southeast Connection.

Board members will be elected to fill five two-year term positions. The deadline for nominations is May 1. Current board member and Chair of the Nominations Committee, Alice Neufeld of Weyburn, encourages individuals to become involved with Southeast Connection.

"Being a Southeast Connection board member has been a very rewarding and worthwhile experience for me.This experience has provided me with the opportunity to learn about and network with other individuals in the area of sport, culture and recreation. The knowledge I have gained has enabled me to provide information and education that has benefited the community. Southeast Connection helps to build creative, active and healthy communities," said Neufeld.

Southeast Connection Sport, Culture & Recreation District is a non-profit, community-driven organization funded by Saskatchewan Lotteries. Its mission is to foster the development and delivery of culture, recreation and sport for the benefit of all people in southeast Saskatchewan. A primary role of the District is to use a community development approach in working with communities and organizations to meet their sport, culture and recreation needs.

The District has three offices located in Weyburn, Oxbow and Glenavon.
