ESTEVAN - The snowstorm that blasted southeast Saskatchewan on Wednesday led to travel not recommended advisories being issued for highways in the Estevan area.

The warnings were declared at 5:47 p.m. Wednesday night and were lifted during the overnight hours. The affected highways included:

  • Highway 39 from the Canada U.S. border to Midale. This includes the Estevan truck bypass north of the city;
  • Highway 47 from the Canada-U.S. border to the Handsworth Road north of Stoughton;
  • Highway 18 from Oungre to the west junction with Highway 9;
  • Highway 361 from the junction with Highway 47 to the junction with Highway 9;
  • Highway 350 from the Canada-U.S. border to the junction with Highway 18; and
  • Highway 9 from the Canada-U.S. border to the junction with Highway 18.

These highways reported issues such as poor visibility, snow drifts, loose and swirling snow, and icy or slippery sections.

The Highway Hotline says winter conditions still exist on these highways and others in the southeast.

Also, Highway 39 northwest of Macoun was closed for hours on Wednesday due to a motor-vehicle collision that occurred in the afternoon.

Snowfall warnings that were in effect for the southeast have been lifted, but more snow is in the forecast.
