Tree of Angels pays tribute to those we have lost

Anyone who has lost someone close to them knows that those memories will forever be a part of their lives. The Palliative Care Committee knows this as well.

Anyone who has lost someone close to them knows that those memories will forever be a part of their lives. The Palliative Care Committee knows this as well.

The committee, which serves the communities of Arcola, Carlyle, Kisbey and Manor, aims to help people pay tribute to their loved ones during the holiday season. The Tree of Angels allows people to purchase a Memory Angel to hang on one of the Christmas trees at Arcola Health Centre and Moose Mountain Lodge in memory of those they have lost.

"You can remember your loved ones by purchasing an angel in their memory," explained Lynn Brady, a member of the Palliative Care Committee. For five dollars, "people can come in and make a donation in memory of a loved one." Donations and angels can be left at Arcola Health Centre, Moose Mountain Lodge or Carlyle Pharmasave." For donations in excess of $10, receipts will be issued.

The fundraiser, which began more than 10 years ago, raises money to provide and supply equipment to people who face serious health issues. One of these initiatives has included the furnishing of a family room where the families and support systems of those staying in the hospital can gather and stay in times of need.

The family room at Moose Mountain Lodge has been furnished with a hideabed, a recliner and a kitchenette to make the stay as comfortable as possible. The room is available for people to stay for a couple of days or an extended time period.

A large amount of the donations are a result of individual bequests. These donations have allowed for the purchase of portable phones in both the Arcola and Carlyle facilities to ensure that people can keep in contact with loved ones.

In addition, a number of comfort mattresses and electric blankets have been purchased to keep the residents of the facilities comfortable.

If you are interested in donating to the Palliative Care Committee by purchasing a Memory Angel in memory of someone you love, you are able to do so from now until Christmas. Donations for loved ones can be made at one of the two facilities - Moose Mountain Lodge in Carlyle or Arcola Health Centre - or at Pharmasave in Carlyle.
