Weyburn man faces several charges after police traffic stop

Weyburn police were busy with 76 calls for service in the past week.

WEYBURN - The Weyburn Police Service experienced a busy week responding to 76 calls for service during the week of September 27 through October 3, resulting in a total of 34 charges. Of the charges, 17 were under the Criminal Code of Canada, 13 under the Traffic Safety Act, and four under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

An adult male faces several charges following a traffic stop conducted by an officer that was aware of the male having a current driving suspension. The male attempted to flee the officer on foot but was subsequently caught and taken into custody. The male now faces two charges under the Criminal Code for resisting arrest and failing to comply with a condition of his release, as well as two traffic related charges including driving while suspended. The male also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest at the time which was dealt with accordingly.

During the week, a total of 11 charges were laid against individuals that either failed to attend court when required, or failed to comply with a condition of their release. Those that failed to appear in court as required now have warrants issued for their arrest.

Officers responded to a medical emergency involving an adult male experiencing a suspected drug overdose. The unconscious male was administered several doses of Naloxone by the individual present with him as well as the attending officer and EMS personnel. Fortunately the male regained consciousness and a tragic outcome was adverted.

Officers attended a local residence at the request to assist removing an unwanted guest. An adult male was removed without incident but was found to be in breach of his release conditions and charged accordingly.

An adult male faces two charges of assault following a physical altercation at a local establishment. The male was released with an upcoming court date.

A curfew compliance check resulted in two individuals facing several Criminal Code and drug related charges. An adult male faces three charges of failing to comply with a condition of his release as well as two charges for possessing a controlled substance, and an adult female faces one charge of failing to comply with a condition of her release as well as two charges for possessing a controlled substance. Both individuals have upcoming court dates.

Also during the week, officers encountered two individuals that were found to have outstanding warrants for their arrest. The individuals were dealt with accordingly and given a new court date as directed by the police agency that held their respective warrant.
