WEYBURN – The Weyburn Police Service responded to 101 calls for service in the week of April 25 to May 1, resulting in a total of 18 charges. Of the charges, eight were laid under the Criminal Code of Canada, five under the Traffic Safety Act (TSA), two under the Controlled Drugs & Substances Act (CDSA), and three under other provincial Acts. The majority of criminal charges resulted from individuals who failed to comply with a condition of their release.

During the week, five charges resulted from individuals failing to appear in court when required to do so, and three charges resulted from individuals who failed to comply with a condition of their release.

Of the five charges under the TSA, two involve drivers who were found to be driving without a valid or appropriate driver’s license, two involve the operation of an unregistered vehicle, and one involved a driver failing to stop for a traffic signal.

The Weyburn Police Service executed a CDSA search warrant on Saturday resulting in an adult male being charged with possession of a controlled substance as well as trafficking a controlled substance. The male was released with an upcoming court date.

Of special note, you may notice several houses displaying green pamphlets (door hangers) on their homes this week (May 2-8) as a show of support and awareness of Mental Health.  The Weyburn Police Service, in partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association, launched the initiative which included the distribution of the green informational pamphlets to the residents of Weyburn and the surrounding area.
