In the week of Aug. 1-7, the Weyburn Police Service dealt with 97 calls for service, including attending four commercial and seven residential alarms during the week, along with accidents, mischief and alcohol-related incidents.
A semi tractor unit hit a cement planter in the downtown area on Friday. The driver of the truck was found in the vehicle, and was arrested and subsequently charged with care and control while impaired and refusing to provide a breath sample.
A vehicle had a rock thrown through the windshield on Saturday.
During the heavy rainfall on Saturday evening, police assisted the Weyburn fire department by doing traffic control at a house fire.
A witness to a vehicle rollover attended the Weyburn Police Station on Sunday. Police found two males swimming across the river who matched the descriptions of the suspects. The driver was arrested, he was charged with impaired driving, driving while over .08 and failing to report an accident. The passenger from the accident was treated at the hospital and released.
Police responded to a residence on Sunday when the homeowner found an unknown man sleeping on his couch. The man had broken into the residence and passed out on the couch, and was charged with break enter and mischief.
The Weyburn Police Service has received numerous calls from the public in regards to scams by computer and by phone. Police advised the public to be extremely cautious when dealing with unknown persons and to never give out any credit card information or banking information.
A B.C. man reported on Aug. 4 that he was trying to locate his missing 18-year-old daughter, who had made a call from Weyburn. Police assisted by doing checks at local businesses, but she could not be located. However, the man called back and said that he'd spoken to her and she was no longer in Weyburn.
City police attended a residence regarding vandalism on Aug. 1, as obscene messages were spray-painted on the lawn and fence.
On Aug. 2, two people were told not to have any contact with each other when a complaint of harassing text and Facebook messages was made to police.
Three garden plots were destroyed at the Community Gardens and was reported on Aug. 3. Beer cans, garbage and plants were found strewn on the ground.
Police removed an intoxicated man from a local motel on Aug. 4 and advised him to leave the premises.
A youth was removed from a residence at the homeowner's request on Aug. 4; he was lodged in cells and charged with breaching conditions.
During the week of July 24-29, city police received 118 requests for assistance.
On July 28, a new four-way stop was started at the intersection of 16th St. and First Ave. S.E. Drivers are asked to be cautious when using this intersection until drivers become more accustomed to the four-way stop.
Police received a complaint of a mini-van being stolen on July 25. Weyburn RCMP were able to locate the van and as a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old man from Weyburn has been charged with theft. He will be making a court appearance in August.
A 25-year-old male from Weyburn was charged following a traffic accident on July 26. The male was charged with leaving a stop sign before it was safe to do so. There were no injuries from the accident.
Police attended to a motorcycle accident in the early morning hours on July 29. A 28-year-old male was driving the motorcycle with a 21-year-old female passenger. The driver lost control at the intersection of Fifth Ave. N., and Brimacombe Dr., and struck a street light. Both riders were taken to hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
Police are asking for the public's assistance in solving a case of mischief. On July 29, a backhoe that was parked at the Comprehensive School had its window broken.
