Everett ‘Duck’ Bigeagle finishes a round of golf at the White Bear Golf Course

Everett Bigeagle or otherwise known as ‘Duck’ to his friends is our feature golfer of the week.

His latest round of golf at the White Bear golf course was great especially golfing with family that he hadn’t seen in a while and reports were all had a good time.

‘Duck’ says he usually gets in five rounds of golf a week after his day job with PureChem.

“I try to play nine holes right after I’m done work just to reset after a hard day’s work! I might get 18 in on a Friday.”

He spends the majority of his golf rounds on the White Bear course, although he does get in some games at Carlyle and Golf Kenosee.

Duck started golfing when he was 13 years old after watching his uncle and then White Bear started building their own course.

“We got involved as high school kids picking rocks and clearing brush.”

“I quit golfing after being in a pedestrian accident a number of years ago and then I got back into it again late last Fall just as the season was ending,” explains Duck.

Playing the game became too painful for his shoulder and the recovery time was long but he’s lucky to still be walking.

“I take everything as a blessing now!”

Friends are glad to see ‘Duck’ Bigeagle back out on the course and swinging the clubs.

Duck had the elusive hole in one on White Bear’s No. 2 hole back in 1993. It was 148 yards.

“It wasn’t the prettiest shot…it was a skullied iron that ran along the grass all the way to the green and into the hole,” says Duck.

It doesn’t matter how it got there…it was still a hole in one!

“I didn’t even see it go in but my playing partners did,” says Duck.

What is it about golf that you like so much?

“It’s just between you and the course! It’s you and the club and the golf ball,” explains Duck.

“Whether I have a good day or a bad day…I’m just as happy if I shoot a 10 as I am with a 3.”

“To me, it’s more about just being out in nature, the outdoors and seeing the beautiful course and grass.

I just like the outdoor atmosphere.”

Walking would be great exercise but ‘Duck’ says he rides a cart because his golf partners all ride carts.

“If I walk then I have to walk a hundred miles an hour to keep up!” he says with a hearty laugh.

Duck says he golfs in Palm Springs every winter but he enjoys coming home to golf at White Bear.

“Out of all the courses I’ve golfed it’s one of my favourites,” explains Duck. “White Bear has always been up there in both difficulty and beauty. And the pace of play is second to none.”

“I love golf,” says Bigeagle “and my four children enjoy golfing as well so it’s a great sport to do together as a family.”

When Bigeagle isn’t golfing, he’s gone fishing! And he’s tried many fishing spots around the province.
